Relic.exe is like a little device full of memories that belong to the two of us. We worked on this album on and off for a year while we were both moving to new places. We'd send each other ideas, sometimes a melody, sometimes just a chord progression or a mood, and the other would bounce off of it. We also resampled what we'd sent each other to turn it into something different from where it started. It was really fun to work on this album and watch it evolve, taking different shapes over the year we spent sending each other sounds.
Often, during our studio sessions, a track took shape from an idea we hadn't planned at all. We ended up with more creative freedom this way and a lot of beats we wanted to put together: a blend of styles, exploring different textures and shapes, from hip-hop to glitchy ambient and lo-fi. That's how the relic became the album's symbol: a strange device, half ancient, half technological, reflecting our music, linking old memories to new ones. PS: It is still so funny to me to hear Altered, it used to be a 87 bpm Jazz Hiphop beat
